Lewis & Paige’s wedding was my first time photographing at Swinton Castle, nestled on the Swinton Estate in Masham, North Yorkshire. In my eight years as a professional wedding photographer, I’ve seen some breathtaking venues—but this one truly blew me away. I couldn’t believe such a luxury wedding venue in Yorkshire had escaped my radar until now.
Swinton Castle sits on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, surrounded by rolling countryside and timeless architecture. Masham itself is a charming market town, known for its beer heritage—home to both Black Sheep Brewery and Theakston’s Brewery, just a short drive from the estate. (Side note: if you get the chance, try Black Sheep’s Riggwelter—but pace yourself, or you’ll end up “riggweltered.”)
Swinton Castle might just be my new favourite. It’s one of the most elegant wedding venues in Yorkshire, both inside and out. The interiors feel five-star yet steeped in history—like stepping back 100 years into a world of refined luxury. I could’ve photographed Lewis & Paige for hours around the castle grounds; every corner is a dream backdrop.
While capturing portraits inside the castle, I bumped into an American couple getting married the next day. They told me they loved how I worked with Lewis & Paige and hoped their photographer would be just as relaxed and creative. from the Swinton Park Hotel to the tree lodges, yurts, and cottages, which was a huge plus for Lewis & Paige. Their dog played a big part in the day’s events, and they told me it was one of the reasons they chose Swinton Castle.
