Autumnal Editorial Vibes: Emily & Myles at Woodstock Weddings and Events

There is a specific kind of magic that happens when a plan comes together with a bit of help from the universe. Emily and Myles’ wedding at Woodstock Weddings and Events was one of those days. We’re talking a stunning bride, a groom and his men looking sharp in tuxedos, and an October day that felt more like mid-July.

As a Yorkshire wedding photographer, I’ve seen my fair share of barn venues, but there is something remarkably stylish about Woodstock. Located just outside York, it manages to feel tucked away in the countryside while maintaining a very cool, contemporary edge.

Cinematic Mornings and Autumnal Gold

The day began at a local farm near the venue where Emily was getting ready. Honestly, pulling into the drive felt less like a wedding morning and more like arriving on a film set. The house was a hive of activity—that beautiful, frantic energy before the dress goes on. My job here was simple: stay out of the way and document the honest, unscripted moments that make a wedding gallery feel real.

Getting married in October in North Yorkshire is always a bit of a gamble. You’re either bracing for a gale or basking in the gold. Luckily for Emily and Myles, the weather decided to play ball. The drive into Woodstock Weddings and Events was lined with trees turning those deep, rich burnt oranges. There was one particular oak tree that was practically glowing—the kind of backdrop that makes my job far too easy.

The Power of the First Look

Once we moved to the bridal suite at Woodstock, the atmosphere shifted. The finishing touches were being made, and it was time for Emily to see her Dad.

I’ve photographed dozens of “first looks,” but this one hit differently. I asked Emily’s Dad to turn around, and the moment he saw her, he was completely overcome. It wasn’t just a polite smile; it was raw, infectious pride. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. That emotional weight stayed with them all the way down the aisle. Seeing him beam with joy as he walked her toward Myles is exactly why I do this. These are the moments that build a family’s legacy.

18 Degrees and Singing Waiters

After the ceremony, we headed out into the courtyard for cocktails and canapés. It was a freakish 18°C—unheard of for late October—and the sun was out in full force. It gave the whole afternoon a relaxed, Mediterranean vibe that you just don’t expect in York at that time of year.

The energy didn’t drop for a second. During the speeches, Emily and Myles had a surprise up their sleeves: The Original Singing Waiters. I’ve seen plenty of acts, but these guys are the gold standard. They had the entire room on their feet, and the photos of the guests’ reactions are some of my favourites from the whole day.

The Hero Shot: Chasing the Fog

I was just about to pack down for the night. I’d finished the first dance and the cake cut, and I was heading to my car to drop off some gear. That’s when I saw it: a thick, cinematic fog rolling across the Yorkshire landscape.

Now, usually, I don’t like to disturb my couples once the party is in full swing. But I knew if we didn’t use this light, I’d be thinking about it all the way home. I ran back in, found Emily, and said, “I’m excited. There’s fog. Do you want one last shot?”

Her response? “Hell yes.”

We stepped out, I dialled in the flash, and the very first frame was the shot. You can see it here in this post. When I showed them the back of the camera, there were actual screams of joy. That is the power of trust. When a couple believes in your vision and is willing to step out into the cold for five minutes, we create something unbelievable.

This was my first time at Woodstock Weddings and Events, but it certainly won’t be my last. It’s a venue with a soul, and I can’t wait to be back there next season.
