This was my first wedding at Wood Hall, and the house showed me everything it had in one summer day: a ceremony indoors, the front steps for the confetti, roses in full bloom for the portraits and the valley for the group. Catherine and Matty kept it classic, navy check and pale pink, and let the place do the rest.
"Ceremony inside, then straight out of the front door onto the red carpet. Wood Hall does the confetti picture better than almost anywhere."
The VenueWhat Wood Hall gives you
- iThe front steps and the portico. Stone columns, white railings, a red carpet down the steps. Ceremony indoors, then straight out through that door into the confetti. It is the frame that says Wood Hall.
- iiA summer garden. Roses in full bloom along the paths and over the walls, a stone arch to stand under, a bench to sit on. In summer this is where the portraits go, and you do not have to walk far for any of it.
- iiiThe terrace above the valley. A balustrade and the Wharfe valley falling away behind you. The group shot with everyone on the gravel and the view behind is one of my favourites from this day.
- ivEverything on one site. Licensed indoors and out, 44 bedrooms, 101 acres. The full venue notes are in my Wood Hall wedding photography guide. This page is the day itself.
A Real Wood Hall DayCatherine & Matty, summer
Here is how the day ran.
-
Robes and a dress on a hanger
Catherine's morning was pale pink satin robes with the jobs written on the back, Bride on hers, and the dress hanging in the window light waiting. Nobody posed for the good ones.
-
Navy check on the steps
Matty and his groomsmen in matching navy check three-pieces, lined up under the portico with the white railings either side. The stone and the suits are the same family of colour, which is why those frames work.
-
The ceremony
Indoors, in a white room with a flower wall behind the couple and petals down the aisle runner. Catherine walked in on her dad's arm. A flower girl went ahead of her and did the job properly.
-
Confetti down the red carpet
Out through the front door and down the steps into it. Everyone lines the carpet, the two of them come down the middle, and the house does the backdrop. Then the whole party on the gravel with the valley behind.
-
Roses, the arch, the terrace
We walked the garden while the roses were at their best, stopped under the stone arch, then out to the terrace balustrade with the view. Twenty minutes, all within a short walk of the door.
-
Mr & Mrs, then the dance floor
Light-up letters in the dining room, a white post box lettered with their names for the cards, speeches at the top table, and a first dance under pink light with everyone round them.
"Book Wood Hall in summer and the roses do half the portraits for you. Save the terrace for last, when the light is on the valley."
